Megan R. Heiden

Shareholder

Meg is an experienced advisor and litigator working in the firm’s healthcare, labor and employment, and litigation practice areas. For more than a decade, she has supported clients in managing a broad range of complex legal issues in employment and healthcare matters.

A key focus of Meg’s practice includes counseling firm clients and businesses of all sizes in navigating personnel management issues like employee contracting, discipline and termination; employer best practices, policies and procedures; and other human resources issues to minimize the risk of litigation. When litigation cannot be avoided, Meg represents clients responding to EEOC and Florida Commission on Human Relations charges and lawsuits claiming employment discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, ADA, PDA, FMLA, wage and hour violations, and related issues.

With her broad range of healthcare experience, Meg helps clients avoid or respond to litigation arising from their transactional and healthcare regulatory obligations. Her practical knowledge of the healthcare industry’s nuances allows her to bridge the traditionally siloed litigation, transactional and regulatory practice areas to provide holistic representation that considers all of her clients’ competing priorities. Meg also enjoys providing legal support for her clients’ quality improvement, patient assistance and community outreach programs.

Clients value Meg’s responsiveness, sincerity and strategic approach to her practice. Lawyers are referred to as “counselors” for a reason, a responsibility Meg doesn’t take lightly, and she understands the importance of beginning with the end goal in mind to ensure the best possible long-term outcome for her clients.

Meg regularly speaks to attorney groups, businesses and healthcare providers statewide on compliance, Medicare and Medicaid issues, documentation in the EMR era, emergency consent and surrogacy issues, improving patient outcomes, liability prevention and defending claims. Florida Super Lawyers named her a “Rising Star,” and in 2019, she was named a “40 Under 40” and a “Woman of Influence” by the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Outside of the office, Meg enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three boys, whether hiking, biking or caring for their backyard chickens.
