The firm’s Real Estate and Land Use attorney Lauren Parsons Langham was recently awarded the Best Deal award from CREW Jacksonville, the industry’s premier business organization dedicated to supporting the achievements of women in commercial real estate.
The Best Deal award acknowledges individuals or teams who, during the past year, have worked together on a common deal, project, initiative or goal that embodies the core values of CREW which are Leadership, Excellence, Influence, Community, Integrity and Advancement.
Demonstrating that women in the same field are not always competitors, but can collaborate for their mutual benefit and the benefit of their client, the Ezell Law Firm and Smith Hulsey & Busey embarked on a joint project to represent a lender in connection with a complex foreclosure action. The firms developed the idea of co-counseling, allowing the client to meet its goals of costs savings, doing business with a woman-owned firm, and also affording the client the benefits of a full service firm.
The action continues today and the representation has since expanded to include the sale of the loan and the sale of the collateral. This partnership was a first in this community, and could be a model for institutional clients looking to do business with women-owned and minority firms while getting full service on a matter.
