Firm Sponsors Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville’s 2019 ‘Winter Dreams’ Concert

Smith Hulsey & Busey was delighted to sponsor the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville’s 2019 Winter Dreams Concert on December 8.

The concert benefitted Feeding Northeast Florida (the community’s largest hunger-relief network) working to establish food security across the eight counties of Northeast Florida. The organization works with grocery stores, local farms, wholesalers and citizen donors to rescue high-quality food that would normally end up in landfills and transforms it into healthy meals for those in need.

Concert attendees were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at the event, which was free and open to the public. The classical music program, held at Jacksonville University’s Terry Concert Hall, featured the following pieces:

  • Les Patineurs (The Skaters), Emile Waldteufel
  • Selections from The Nutcracker Suite, Peter Tchaikovsky
  • Finale from Symphony No. 5, op. 82, Jean Sibelius

The Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville is comprised of volunteer community members, bound by their common love of classical music and performance. The orchestra was founded in 2016 by Nadine Terk, noted Jacksonville artist and the former curator for the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art.

True to the orchestra’s commitment to make classical music accessible to all, concerts are casual, free, and run about one hour. Attendance by children is not only welcome, but encouraged. Additional concerts this season will take place on March 8, 2020 at St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, and on May 3, 2020 at the Jacksonville Jewish Center.
