Former Putnam County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant joins firm
Smith Hulsey & Busey is proud to welcome its newest associate lawyer James Edgar to the firm.
Edgar focuses on medical malpractice defense and complex commercial litigation. He previously served as a summer law clerk with the firm.
“We are genuinely pleased to have James join our firm,” said Steve Busey, chairman of the firm. “He is an outstanding lawyer with unique experience in law enforcement. He will be an asset to our renowned healthcare practice team.”
Before joining the firm, Edgar worked with the Self-Insurance Program for the State University Systems of Florida. He conducted legal research regarding medical malpractice defense for the program, which represents the doctors and nurses teaching in nearly all of the medical centers connected to the state’s university system.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Edgar served in law enforcement for 15 years. He became a detective in the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, becoming a SWAT team leader and, ultimately, the commander of the drug unit, where he supervised all covert law enforcement operations in the county and worked with state and federal agencies.
Edgar graduated with honors from the University of Florida’s College of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from Flagler College.
