Smith Hulsey & Busey represented clients in approximately $900 million worth of mergers, acquisitions, minority investments and financings that closed in 2022. The banner year comes after a record 2021 for the firm’s team of transactional lawyers, which includes Dick Lewis, Steve Moore, David Dunn, Angela Cottrell, David Roberts, Kayla Herrin, Samantha Roy and Max Potter.
Last year SHB represented buyers, sellers and investors in 45 mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and minority investments and 15 financing deals on behalf of more than two dozen clients, including Black Knight, Nextran Corporation, H2 Health, Envisage International Corporation, River Bay Partners, Wells Fargo Bank and The Suddath Companies.
Among the M&A team’s successful transactions was its representation of client Blue Sky Network, an Iridium satellite connectivity solutions firm, in a sale to ACR Group Corporation and its representation of River Bay Partners in several venture capital investments. Other deals, many of them confidential, involved companies in the healthcare, technology, transportation, banking and food production industries, among others.
“Although the pace of deal activity tapered off compared to the post-pandemic boom in 2021 throughout the country, the second half of 2022 proved to be extremely active for our dynamic clients. We are thankful to have had the opportunities to represent many talented business leaders in transactions across the country and abroad during the 2022 calendar year. Our diverse client base, combined with our position in an area of the country enjoying robust and resilient economic growth, leads us to believe that 2023 will show continued, strong deal flow,” said Steve Moore, SHB’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice leader.
Mergers and acquisitions are expected to pick up this year as companies adapt to more challenging market conditions, inflation-driven interest rates and more, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report. SHB has already closed a number of deals in 2023 and is prepared to meet this demand.
SHB’s Mergers & Acquisitions team has decades of experience handling complex transactions, including M&A deals, joint ventures, private equity investments, financings and strategic alliances. The firm has represented clients in numerous cross-border transactions, including acquisitions and investments in the United Kingdom, Europe, India, Canada and Mexico.
