Charmaine Chiu Named 2021 ‘Woman Lawyer of the Year’ by Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association

Smith Hulsey & Busey shareholder Charmaine Chiu has been named the 2021 “Woman Lawyer of the Year” by the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association (JWLA). She was presented with the award at a JWLA event on June 23.

The annual honor recognizes women who rise to every challenge and not only meet those challenges head on, but excel and surpass every expectation.

“Charmaine is one of the most dedicated attorneys I know, whether she’s tirelessly assisting our clients in the office or serving our community,” said firm chairman Steve Busey. “We’re proud of this latest recognition and grateful to have her as an important member of our team.”

The “Woman Lawyer of the Year” recognition was first awarded in 2003. Each year since, JWLA has presented the award to an attorney who is not necessarily at the pinnacle of her career, but who has made meaningful contributions in her community through her legal service or volunteer activities and who has been a positive role model for JWLA members.

Chiu is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and is chair of the firm’s integrated Healthcare Practice Team. She represents health systems and hospitals, academic medical centers, clinically integrated networks, physician group practices, and other healthcare providers in complex transactions and regulatory matters.

In 2020, Chiu was named a ‘Woman with Heart’ by Volunteers in Medicine Jacksonville, and the Jacksonville Business Journal selected her for its 2020 class of “Ultimate Attorneys.”
